Project Overview
Client: NHBC Builder
Location: Norfolk, UK
Project Type: High-End Homes Tiling
Total Area: 60m² per site
Substrate: Heated sand cement screed
Challenge
JK Tiling was tasked with tiling two high-end home sites in Norfolk, each measuring 60m². The challenge was to ensure the durability and longevity of the tiles on heated sand cement screeds, traditionally requiring the use of uncoupling mats to prevent tile failures due to lateral stress movements.
Solution
JK Tiling opted for BAL AF Max, an innovative rubber-crumb uncoupling and tile adhesive. This cutting-edge product incorporates anti-fracture technology that absorbs lateral stress movement, eliminating the need for traditional uncoupling mats. With its “mix and fix” simplicity, BAL AF Max promised efficiency and reliability.
Execution
Site One
- Product Used: Traditional method with other brands
- Materials: 24 x 20kg bags of adhesive, 2 x 30m uncoupling mats
- Labour: 5 days
Site Two
- Product Used: BAL AF Max
- Materials: 8 x 17kg bags of BAL AF Max
- Labour: 3 days
Results
The use of BAL AF Max on site two resulted in a significant reduction in both materials and labour. By applying BAL AF Max, JK Tiling completed the project using only 8 bags of adhesive in 3 days, compared to the traditional method which required more resources and time.
Testimonial
JK Tiling expressed their satisfaction with BAL AF Max, stating:
“It’s a very smooth and easily spread product and has saved a minimum of 1.5 days’ worth of time/labour. Cannot believe the coverage and will be using going forwards.”
Conclusion
The successful application of BAL AF Max by JK Tiling demonstrates the product’s efficiency and effectiveness where traditional uncoupling products are needed. By reducing the need for additional materials and labour, BAL AF Max proves to be a valuable choice for tiling professionals seeking quality and time efficiency, as well as protection against lateral movement in the substrate.
